Humberto I. Aguilar, MD

Dr. Humberto I. Aguilar retired in 2026. He was a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist who had practiced with GIS since 2001. He was a partner with GastroIntestinal Specialists and served on the Board of Directors. He was also the Principal Investigator and Medical Director of the Louisiana Research Center. His particular areas of interest included fatty liver disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). He was designated as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology in 1999 and as a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association in 2009. Dr. Aguilar has also authored multiple publications associated with his work at the Louisiana Research Center. His other professional affiliations included the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
